Warner Won't Run / October 12, 2006

  • I’m bummed that former Virginia Governor Mark Warner won’t be seeking the Democratic nomination for president. In my mind, he was nearly the perfect candidate — not a career politician, but a self-made businessman with few, if any, skeletons in his closet. He hasn’t sworn off politics for good, but for now being with his family is more important than hitting the campaign trail.

Think about this. If Hillary Clinton or Jeb Bush gets the nomination and wins the election, it would mean 24 years of presidential power concentrated in just two families (28 years if Hillary or Jeb become two-termers). That’s nearly three decades of presidential power in the hands of either the Bush or Clinton dynasties. Enough is enough. In a country of nearly 300 million people, are they really the best the Republicans or Democrats can offer to fill the highest seat in the land?

And don’t even get me started on George Allen.
